ESOC&S ANNOUNCED A NEW PRELATE

SPEECH DELIVERED BY HIS MOST EMINENCE, BABA ALADURA ELECT,
(DR) DAVID D.L BOB-MANUEL AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE ON MONDAY, 28TH AUGUST 2017.

Your Eminences, Members of the Advisory Board of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim,
Distinguished personalities and members of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim present,
Respected members of the “fourth estate of the realm”,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is with a deep sense of humility and in honour and appreciation to God Almighty that I find it expedient to speak to you today on my appointment as the Baba Aladura Elect and Prelate of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide.

Permit me to refer you to Romans 9: 15-16
“For He saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy”.
It is against this background that I give glory to God Almighty and immensely thank Him for His grace and mercy upon my life and for finding me a worthy vessel of honour to be used for the work of His kingdom as Baba Aladura Elect and Prelate of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim. I also immensely thank the Advisory Board for appointing me and I pray and ask for their maximum cooperation and synergy to move the Church of God forward.

We are at a defining moment where the ethos of our Christianity is being challenged by events, issues and happenings around our country and the world at large. This is the time for the Church to re-awaken and re-engineer a revival, to focus with unity of purpose on propagating the gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in order to win souls for CHRIST (Matt. 28: 19-20). In line with the foregoing, my tenure will focus and pursue with vigour prayers, evangelism, righteous living and holiness. The other core values of the Church such as love, faith, service to humanity and brotherliness that the Founder, St Moses Orimolade Tunolase (of blessed memory) entrenched will be enhanced.  I commit that our youths and women will occupy a place of importance and value as both spiritual, moral and economic empowerment will be encouraged. We will also partner to look for our lost sheep and bring them back to the fold.

The Church has in recent times seen an upsurge in development of cathedrals and physical structures. This dovetails into the ten (10) year development plan of the Church that was approved last year by the Advisory Board. I am committed to pursue the objectives and targets of the development plan and enjoin you all to join me in this laudable task.

I therefore seek the cooperation, patience and loyalty of members of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim as we enter a new era: an era of evangelism, revival, pious and righteous living, growth and development etc. I also seek the partnership of our Christian brethren; though our denominations may differ but our mission will always be the same – to preach Christ, convert souls and live a holy and victorious Christian life. This is a time for Christendom and the Church of God to come together as one so that the gates of hell should NOT prevail against it.

By the manifest grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will together take the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim and the service of our Lord Jesus Christ to a greater and enviable height. Amen.

I therefore charge you like Saint Paul did in Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the comforting presence of the Holy Spirit be with you all, now and always. Amen.

I use this opportunity to cordially invite members of the press, the Christian community, and other stakeholders to my induction as Baba Aladura as would be announced by the leadership of the Church.

I thank you all for your patience and kind attention.

God bless you all
God bless the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim & Seraphim
God bless Christendom
God bless Nigeria and the entire world

Nigeria Airforce Plane crashed

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has said it did not issue a statement banning the songs of Olamide, Davido and 9ice from being broadcast.

The NBC said it is not in the business of banning songs, saying by virtue of the broadcasting law, radio and television stations are to ensure that songs containing vulgar or suggestive lyrics and visuals are not aired.

Idachaba Armstrong, director of broadcast monitoring, told TheCable Lifestyle that a ban notice of ‘Wo’ and ‘Wavy Level’ by Olamide, ‘Fall’ by Davido and ‘Living Things’ by 9ice did not emanate from the NBC.

The ban notice, which was issued by the National Broadcasting Corporation, had been circulating on social media for the past couple of days.

‘Commission, not Corporation’
Reacting, Armstrong said: “First of all, NBC is a commission, not a corporation.

“Nobody at NBC issued a statement to the effect. We can’t be issuing statements on every album released in the country. The broadcaster has the responsibility to do the needful.

“NBC does not ban songs, we don’t have any business with the artistes. It is left for NBC to tell stations to ensure the songs and videos are fit for broadcast before putting them on air.”

Armstrong emphasised the need for broadcast stations to do “gate-keeping” so as to determine the songs that are unsuitable for broadcast.

“The whole idea of offensive vulgar lyrics. It is the responsibility of broadcasters to ensure they don’t come on air,” he told TheCable Lifestyle.

“They are supposed to do what is called gate-keeping and they should have editorial control over their content but broadcasters now carelessly air songs without exercising that editorial discretion.

“They abdicate that responsibility and then expect us to start chasing them.”

‘The songs are actually offensive’
The director of broadcast monitoring, however, said he has ascertained that the songs in question are “actually offensive”.

He said: “I have reliably gathered that some of those songs are actually offensive, regarding the lyrics. Some of these songs are for clubs.

“These stations that should practice self-regulation are lazy and unprofessional in their conduct.”

Armstrong said broadcast stations are aware that any lyrics or song containing offensive content cannot be put on the air, adding that any station found wanting will be sanctioned.

“We will impose the necessary sanctions on the stations. If the stations contravene any of the broadcast code, they will be fined,” he said.

Explaining how the process of sanctioning a broadcast station works, he said: “Once NBC picks it up, we call the stations to order and impose the necessary fine. First, we caution you, then impose a fine afterward, which can be between N50-N100k. But if they are recalcitrant, it can rise to N500k.”

Since the news of the purported ban hit the internet, fans and several entertainers have heavily criticised the commission.

Health ministry’s grouse with Olamide
Fans of the artistes have also mixed up the alleged ban with the ministry of health’s notification that Olamide’s video for his hit song ‘Wo’ contains “dangerous public health content”.

The ministry had on Sunday notified the public via Twitter that some of the scenes in the rapper’s video violated the 2015 tobacco act.

“The content & video contains scenes that violates the ban on Tobacco Advertising, Promotion & Sponsorship provision of the act #ClearTheAir,” one of the tweets had read.

According to the 2015 tobacco control act, the advertising, promotion or sponsorship of tobacco or tobacco products “shall attract a fine of not less than N3,000,000 and a term of imprisonment of not more than one year”.

The rapper on Tuesday took to Twitter to state that he did not intend to promote tobacco in his video.

The visiting Rotarians, who were received at the District office in Ikeja G.R.A. yesterday, lauded the efforts of members in Nigeria in combating polio and congratulated the nation for the achievement, adding that it remains two more years of robust surveillance for the nation to be totally certified free of polio by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
McGovern, however, called on the Federal Government and the governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan, the other two nations still contending with the virus, to keep on supporting Rotary for total eradication of polio.
He warned that as long as a single case of polio is prevalent in a nation, such a nation couldn’t be polio-free due to the possibility of the spread of the contagious virus. He also emphasised the importance of children being given the vaccine continuously until no more case of polio is recorded within the stipulated years for total freedom.
At the event, scholarships were awarded to three persons after being selected from the pool of applicants who lost loved ones in the course of carrying out polio immunization or a student undertaking a course in public health. Mr. Oso Oluwatosin Babafunsho, Sandra Iveren Shinshima and Dr. Tolorunju Ayodeji Edu emerged beneficiaries of the scholarship with N1,587,175 each.
Furthermore, popular Nolloywood actress, Kate Henshaw, yesterday emerged Polio Ambassador, and promised to promote the course of Rotary in eradicating polio.

CAMPUS DRAMA

DRAMA AS FEMALE UNIVERSITY STUDENT HOLDS MAN ‘HOSTAGE’ ON CAMPUS FOR ALLEGEDLY REFUSING TO PAY FOR SEX
A dramatic scene played out at the town campus of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday afternoon when a female student of the school held a man ‘hostage’ for refusing to pay her after he allegedly had sex with her.
The incident, which took place in front of the main gate of the university, was captured in a six-minute video posted on the Facebook page belonging to Inside Uniuyo.
The video shows a middle-aged man on the driver’s seat of a brown-colour Honda Civic car, rejecting entreaties from passers-by, apparently students, who were persuading him to “settle” a female student who had spent a night with him.
“Settle”, a euphemism in Nigeria, means to pay a bribe or give money for an illicit act.
“I gave her N2,000 she refused to collect,” the embattled man is heard screaming at those who were begging him to “settle” the student.
“I didn’t do anything with her. I had asthma yesterday night,” the man said in an angry tone.
The identity of the man and that of the student were unknown.
The female student, who appeared unperturbed, was busy eating boiled groundnuts from a cellophane bag on her laps.

She wore a turtle-neck milky top on blue jeans trousers.
The man said he picked the student in front of the school gate the previous day and took her out for a night. But he insisted that both of them didn’t have sex because he had an asthma attack.
“It’s a lie, this man slept with me last night,” she said to the crowd which surrounded the car.
The man yelled at her to get down from his car. “I have given you money, what do you want again?”
The girl retorted, “You never see something!”
The man yelled again at her to call the police or go to the court if she really felt he owed her.
The student, from the video, demanded that the man pay her N20,000.
By now, more people are seen trying to talk to the man to add some extra money to the N2,000 he was offering the student. The people could be heard telling the man to save himself the embarrassment.
“Settle what with her? Am I a criminal? Did I steal anything from her?
“Why should I give her that kind of money? Did I buy anything from her?”
One of the persons trying to intervene asked him, “Did she jump into your car or you took her from somewhere?”
The man responded: “Did I force her into the car? Is she an underage?”
The other man asked again, “Did you do something with her?”
“I said I didn’t. I had asthma. She is a witness. Ask her. I didn’t do anything.
“We stayed in the room. But we didn’t do anything. I had asthma.”
The man said he had only N3, 000 in this pocket and that he was willing to give out N2, 000 to the student.
“Oga, what did you expect when you carried her home?”
“Did she tell me a price? Is she ashawo (prostitute)?
“If she were ashawo, I wouldn’t have carried her.”
One male student in the video is heard speaking in Igbo language to the female student, pleading with her to collect the money that the man was offering her.
She too was adamant on her demand.
Later, a police pick-up truck is seen arriving the scene. A mobile policeman came down and took both the man and the student away, while the crowd booed.
The spokesperson for the University of Uyo, Godfrey Essien, couldn’t be reached at the times of filing this report, as his phone line was switched off.

The Nigerian Army redeployed, cancelled or amended postings of seven major generals, 45 brigadier generals and 597 other officers last week, in one of its most far-reaching shake-up exercise in recent years, PREMIUM TIMES reported yesterday evening. No reasons were readily cited for the new postings and cancellations and amendments of previous postings, but military sources told PREMIUM TIMES over the weekend that the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, approved the exercise on July 18. Amongst the seven major generals affected, the Army cancelled the redeployment of Adeniyi Oyebade, two months after he was transferred from being General Officer Commanding of Nigerian Army 1 Division, Kaduna, to Army Headquarters in Abuja as chief of logistics. But no new posting was assigned to Mr. Oyebade, who was indicted last year in the December 2015 massacre of Shiites in Zaria. The shake-up was announced in a memo with reference number MS/G1/3OO/2O7 and signed by I.O. Rabiu, a major general and Military Secretary, military sources said. About 100 Nigerian Army formations, units and departments within and outside the country were copied in the memo. Redeployment has become a frequent feature in the Nigerian Army since Mr. Buratai assumed office two years ago, but none of them was as sweeping as the recent exercise. Three major shake-ups had been recorded within the last seven months, with the most recent affecting 147 officers in May. A total of 227 officers were affected in a similar exercise last December. A breakdown of the remaining 597 affected officers shows that they included 197 colonels, 50 lieutenant colonels, 99 majors, 138 captains, 111 lieutenants and two second lieutenants. Thirty-eight out of the total 649 officers had their postings cancelled or deleted. That included two major generals, one brigadier general, seven colonels, five lieutenant colonels, 10 majors, eight captains and five lieutenants. While eight of the officers had their postings deleted, the redeployment of 30 others were amended by the Army. “It is the responsibility of all formation/unit commanders whose officers are affected by this posting to implement accordingly. “Officers must take over on the effective dates indicated. Formation/unit commanders will be held responsible for lapses in the implementation of the directives contained therein,” the memo stated. Source News Express

OPINION: How BBNAIJA 2017 saved Nigerians from depression, anxiety

Despite criticisms that greeted BBNAIJA 2017 from Nigerians both within and outside the country about its moral implications to Nigeria’s value system, some people believe that the show brought fame to Nigeria among the other African countries. In a message sent to NAIJ.com, Abdulrofiu Muhammed Temitayo explains why the show reduced depression and anxiety among Nigeria, especially at the time the country’s economy was in recession. Seth J. Gillihan wrote in a piece that, multiple research studies have supported the positive mood attenuation hypothesis. When we're depressed, positive things do less to lift our spirits. However, one of the well-supported cognitive behavioural treatments for depression - behavioral activation, relies on the mood-lifting effects of meaningful and enjoyable activities. “One of the most common symptoms of depression is anhedonia, the lack of interest or pleasure in normally enjoyable activities. If you've been depressed, you probably recognize the experience of not looking forward to anything, even activities you used to enjoy. Even basic pleasures like food and sex may have lost their allure".
BBN
Imagine this is not the first of its kind but what gave much dust in the air was that the show was moved from soil of the Green White Green to Rainbow Nation. Housemates were Uriel, Kemen, CocoIce, Bally,Marvis, ThinTallTony,Gifty, Soma, Bisola, Miyonse , Efe , and Tboss among others. As God would have it, in a credit moment of the ride to Warri-boy under the wave of 'Based On Logistics '; Efe Ejeba follow by well talented lady Abisola Ayeola known as Bisola taking her campaign to London to promote girl child education and the second runner up Tokunbo Idowu; I named her ‘myladytboss’. Asked why? I love those individuals who stand and keep actions brazing, it won't kill the whole life dulling. I beg your pardon if you disagree. Life isn't beautiful if you don't get your nerves hitching. Illustration to this, even God left Satan to misled human; imagine this. Even Easter won't be celebrated if Judas doesn't stand in the lane of Jesus and also the whole city then went against the name of Muhammad. Victory is all for the good ones like God over Satan, Jesus came on top of everything including Judas in person, Muhammad floored the city and the city of Mecca came under him. Before the premonitory of Bbnaija, is there depression? YES, though Nigeria was on top of index in terms of World Happiest list but due to increase in depression, suicide, violence, the rank dropped. During the show, not much to discredit the basis of depression in the viewers most especially looking at the Dr Orji Allwell, Taiwo Momoh, Emeralds and Adesoji Adediran suicidal death. From observations, I could clinch it that all these individuals weren't watching the reality show like the doctor he won't find time to do so likewise is the two businesswomen and also the LAUTECH guy who hanged himself inside the room after his friends were out to take class. Bbnaija 2017 reduced the number of depressed people certainly from the findings I did and culled from different social media helping the wave of the time more inciting and discursive in different places up to political analysis bending and excusing their moment with 'who will be evicted next' or ' I want Efe to win the game No No No it is Bisola my girl why can you say that when Tboss is the right way to pick the money'. It was very intense. How does this work if the positive attenuation hypothesis is correct? A new research study revisited this hypothesis in a sample of young adults the authors pointed out that most studies showing positive mood attenuation in depression were done in the lab and used positive stimuli of questionable relevance to real life: viewing positive events, happy facial expressions, amusing videos or receiving small monetary rewards. Analysis to it is that people with higher levels of depression got a significant boost in their moods from positive events. READ ALSO: 17-old-sick teenager ‘detained’ by Nigerian govt hospital for inability to pay medical bills Also interpersonal events had greatest impact on mood. Also Depression was linked with expecting fewer positive events. And looking forward to positive events the next day lifted mood among people who are depressed. With all these analyses we could see how Bbnaija had help people to shun depression. “Anywhere you have a recession, suicide is typically the fallout. And in our society where people cope with a drop in purchasing power, where there are no jobs, where those who have jobs cannot afford basic things like food, clothing, and shelter, thoughts 'life is worthless', thoughts of hopeless and loss of faith might set in. And where these factors are available, depression is present ". "Suicide does not just occur. It takes a prolonged period of time to set in and to mature. When an individual is depressed, they are very vulnerable to suicide “says Acting Chief Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Yaba, Dr Richard Ademola Adebayo. Primary Health care should stand for Nigerians in need, identification and management of depressive disorders, non-governmental organizations and religious organizations should stop telling their congregation that without money that's no life and should indoctrinate in them if there's life there will be certainly be money any matter the circumstances they may be facing as asserted by Lawani Ambios. "Many people mistakenly believe that depression is defined as a weakness of character or mere sadness. But depression is a complex disorder that has psychological, social, and biological origins. Depression is a mental illness that can be treated in multiple ways, including medication and psychotherapy, and it should not be considered normal unhappiness or simply ignored. "Luckily, depression is a treatable disorder, but antidepressants alone are not typically enough. While these drugs have the ability to alter brain chemistry and fix deep-rooted biological problems, the treatment for depression may also include psychotherapy. The solution to depressing is not as easy as popping a pill, which may take as long as six weeks to kick in. Talk-therapy along with medication is often added to the treatment process". "Depression is a serious health condition, and no one chooses to be depressed. People mistakenly think that depression is merely a result of a person wallowing in their grief or sadness and can be cured by thinking positively and making a change in one’s attitude. "Depression is not a sign of weakness, laziness, or self-pity. It is a medical condition, arising from errors in brain chemistry, function, and structure due to environmental or biological factors. "Depression is more than the occasional sad thought or unhappiness due to a death, breakup, or disappointment; although these events can lead to depression. Everyone experiences highs and lows in their lifetimes, but depression doesn’t always happen due to a specific negative event. "Depression is marked by unexplained periods of hopelessness, sadness, lethargy, and suicidal tendencies. These episodes last for prolonged periods and can come suddenly and inexplicably, even when things in life appear positive". "Antidepressants work by changing brain chemistry and alleviating mood disorders. The thought of altering your brain chemistry can seem scary, but antidepressants are designed to change only certain chemicals in the brain. Antidepressants affect the symptoms of depression, and do not actually change your personality. In fact, most people who suffer from depression describe it as an alteration in their normal mood. Most people who take antidepressants finally begin to feel like themselves again, rather than feeling like a different person. It’s a common misconception that discussing depression merely reinforces destructive feelings and keeps a person focused on the negative. However, being alone with your thoughts is much more harmful. Having a supportive, reliable, and non-judgmental listener is critical in the treatment of depression? READ ALSO: Tears of joy as FG release names of girls freed from Boko Haram, one of the girls has her leg amputated Depression is not only a serious illness, it is also one shrouded in misconceptions. A major roadblock that keeps people from getting help are the myths around therapy and medication, two of the most common ways to treat depression. There are more therapy options than those two, though. Other therapies include: medication, psychotherapy, alternative therapies, lifestyle changes, medical procedures and combination therapy as Garry Staranchuk gave a powerful analysis of depression.

Femi Kuti breaks World Saxophone record

Femi Kuti
Femi Kuti has broken the World record for the longest single note held on a saxophone.
He attained the feat on Sunday at the New Africa Shrine as shared by his sister, Yeni Anikulapo-Kuti on her Instagram page @yenikuti;
“This evening 7th May at the New Africa Shrine, Femi Kuti broke the world record for the longest single note on a saxophone note set in 1997 by Kenny G.
The record stood at 45mins 37 seconds….Femi did 46mins 38seconds!! Give it up, we have a world champ.
This was witnessed by a large audience that included Sen. Ben Murray-Bruce, the deputy high commissioners of Netherlands and The United Kingdom.“
The record was previously first set in December, 1997 by legendary saxophonist Kenny G when he held an E-Flat for over 45 minutes.
Kenny G was reported to have used a technique called Circular Breathing, which keeps a steady stream of air flowing through the saxophone even as the player breathes.
For Femi Kuti, it is unclear yet what technique he used or even, the member of the sax family he used to achieve the massive feat.
He started playing the sax when he was 15 and joined his father’s band “The Egypt 80.”
He later formed his own band, “Positive Force’’ in the late 80s.
Femi, four-time Grammy award nominee, is skilled on other musical instruments including the trumpet and the piano.
According to media reports, Femi awaits an official recognition by the Guinness World Record.
